Why Do My Drains Keep Clogging?
Recurring clogs almost always have a root cause. We break down the 6 most common reasons drains keep backing up.
If you're snaking the same drain every couple of months, you're treating the symptom — not the cause. Recurring clogs almost always trace to one of these six issues.
1. A defect in the pipe
Bellies, offsets, cracks, and root intrusion catch debris over and over. The only way to confirm is an HD camera inspection.
2. Buildup on the pipe wall
Cabling makes a hole. The buildup remains. Hydro jetting scours the wall clean.
3. Wrong slope
Drain lines need ~1/4″ per foot of fall to flow properly. Too flat or too steep both cause solids to settle.
4. Improper venting
If the vent stack is blocked, drains gurgle and slow as the system can't equalize air pressure.
5. Pipe material
Cast iron rusts rough on the inside. Old galvanized water lines scale up. Both catch debris that PVC wouldn't.
6. What's going down the drain
Wipes, grease, hair, coffee grounds, paper towels — even small amounts add up over months.
